Description

SHADOWFORGE is a Melodic Death Metal solo project that I founded in 2011, discontinued in 2013, and re-launched in 2020. Musical inspiration for Shadowforge includes melancholic metal bands like Insomnium & Omnium Gatherum from Finland, as well as adherents of the Gothenburg sound like In Flames and Dark Tranquility. The main goal of Shadowforge is to create melodic, symphonic metal with varying themes. Some songs have moving passages and emotional lyrics, while others have gripping riffs and dark, brutal tones.

Biography

Shadowforge was originally started in 2011 after the release of Northsong’s debut album, Winter’s Dominion. I wanted an outlet to make Melodic Death Metal, without having to release it through Northsong, since it was very different music. I released a song on my Soundcloud titled “Voidwatcher”, credited to the new moniker, Shadowforge. However, aside from this and a Children of Bodom cover in 2012, I never did anything else with this project for some time, so I decided to discontinue it – which at the time I thought would be a permanent decision.


During the following years, I wrote some songs that I planned to use for a different project that never came to fruition. In 2020, I obviously had a lot of time to dedicate to music, and ended up finishing a lot of these songs and expanding on the ones that were already finished. So, instead of starting yet another project, I decided to resurrect Shadowforge in order to use the name for these songs that were already heavily inspired by Melodic Death Metal bands – just not the same ones that inspired my earlier Shadowforge writings. With these six songs, the first official release of Shadowforge, a self-titled EP, was completed and was released November 13th, 2020.

Shortly after, I immediately began work on a sophomore release which is still currently being worked on.

Reforged Out Now!

Almost two years in the making, the remastered Shadowforge debut EP titled REFORGED is available on Bandcamp right now! As of now, Reforged is only on Bandcamp, but will be coming to all other platforms in the next 2-3 weeks. UPDATE: Reforged is now also available on all major streaming platforms!
