Ebon Arcanum – Recording for “Reawakening” Finished

I’ve finally finished the recording process for Reawakening! I announced the album all the way back in August 2020, but it’s nearly complete. All that’s left to do is some mixing and mastering. I expect to announce the release date some time very soon – perhaps this weekend.

In case you missed it, Reawakening is a complete re-recording of my 2014 EP, Awakening. Clever title, right? Anyway, I decided to re-record these songs because the quality of the originals leave much to be desired. Back in 2014, I essentially put a ton of reverb on everything because I thought it added atmosphere, but what it really did is just hide the music behind a giant wall of echoing noise. With these new recordings, I wanted to make these songs a bit clearer, while still retaining the atmosphere of the EP as a whole.

Not only is there a lot less reverb, but the quality overall is much better. I’ve been learning a lot of music production techniques over the last few months, which come into play on “Reawakening” especially. Until I started my music projects up again last year, I didn’t know how to EQ things, I relied on really old plugins, and I didn’t even use limiting or compression! Basically, I was a complete beginner with no desire to improve because I thought all these things were too complicated. Over the last year, however, I made sure to dedicate time to actually learn new skills, and stay up to date on what’s going on in the music production world. My entire recording, mixing, and mastering processes have been rebuilt from the ground up, and it will definitely show on this album.

There’s still a lot of work to do before release, but I’m aiming to release Reawakening in the next 2-3 weeks. Be sure you stay up-to-date and follow me on some of my various accounts and profiles! I’ll have some previews available sometime next week.
