Where I’m at
Since I’m working on three different projects and some other stuff behind the scenes, I thought I’d share the details about exactly where I’m at in the recording process for everything.
For the three upcoming releases for Northsong, Ebon Arcanum, and Shadowforge, I already have all the instruments done and recorded – aside from a couple of songs from “Reawakening” I still need to do, but that won’t take long. All lyrics have been written for all the new material as well, so my biggest task now is recording vocals for everything. Now, more specifically….
For Shadowforge‘s EP, two songs have vocals, though I may need to do some tweaking and re-recording for some of those parts. I’ve been out of practice for awhile, and I feel like my growling vocals especially aren’t what they used to be. But, I’m getting a little better each time I record.
As for Northsong‘s NW&WH, I also just have two songs completely done. Though, I’m considering this album my main focus right now, so it will likely be done before anything else despite having double the songs. I’m having trouble hitting the high notes when recording the clean vocals for the chorus in “Titan”, but aside that, everything’s going smoothly. Again, I’m out of practice, and high-pitched, “power metal-esque” vocals aren’t easy for anyone, really.
Finally, with Ebon Arcanum‘s “Reawakening”, I just have one song completely done, (meaning, with instruments AND vocals) and a couple more that need some acoustic tracks recorded too. But like I said, that won’t take long.
Altogether, I expect to release all three of these albums/EPs before the end of the year. Only vocals are left, really, and that won’t take too long. After I’m done recording those, I’ll have to mix and master everything, which might take some time. I like to make sure everything is sounding perfect and all the different tracks in each song are at appropriate levels. Of course, the instrumental parts are pretty much already mixed, since I’ve been spending a lot of time with those.
What’s to come
Once everything is recorded, mixed, and released for my three main projects, I still have a lot more material for Ebon Arcanum and Shadowforge to work with. In fact, I’m already well underway for a second EP with Shadowforge! I have a little bit for Northsong too, but not nearly enough for an album or even an EP. Still not sure what direction I’ll take with Northsong going forward.
I also have a two-man project with a friend in the works, which has a planned EP that’s on track to be released even before any of my other stuff this year, so look out for that in the meantime. I expect to continue working on this project for awhile once this EP is out. Performance-wise, I’m just a vocalist with this project, but I contribute to it in a few other “behind-the scenes” ways too.
Furthermore, I’m considering starting a couple more solo projects, though right now it’s just an idea that’s up in the air. A power metal project and a dungeon synth project are the current possibilities. Of course, my music-making abilities are a bit slower and weaker these days, so who knows if any of this will come to fruition in the future. But the dungeon synth project especially is an interesting prospect – I think it would be cool to experiment with electronic music!
Lastly, I want to start doing covers again on YouTube. Not just full band or country covers either, but maybe acoustic covers of metal songs, symphonic covers, vocal covers, and more as well. We’ll see!
So long story short: stick around, because I still have plenty left to do!
